Hi everyone:

–This Friday is a First Friday, so the day begins with Mass at 10:00.

–It is the feast of St. Blaise, so Father is planning on the throat blessing after Mass

–Thursday is the feast of Candlemas, which we prepared for last week with the making of the candles.  Father will be doing the blessing of the candles on Thursday, so if you can get over there, you can drop off your candles by Mass time on Thursday and then pick them up Friday or Sunday or whenever you are back at St. Francis de Sales.

–Thanks you to Jennifer for running the candle making workshop for the children last Friday.  It was so great!  What a lovely way to prepare to celebrate Candlemas

–We will be doing a new thing (well, new for Seat of Wisdom) on Friday as well, a practice called “Burying the Alleluia.”  Sunday is Septugesima Sunday, seventy days before Easter, two and a half weeks before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the wearing of the purple, or, for the sillier among us, “pre-Lent,” and so the last liturgically sung Alleluia before Easter is the Vespers of the Saturday before the Sunday.  There is a tradition, therefore, of symbolically ‘burying the Alleluia,” for the duration of Lent.  So: Dana’s morning art class will be decorating our Alleluia, and we will ‘bury’ it afterward (still deciding when exactly).  We have a silver container and a purple cloth to cover it; we will put it under the statue of Our Lady in the front room; we have a prayer and a hymn to sing.  I think it will quite an experience!

–Please take note: We will be having our first informational meeting for our prospective high school program on Friday at 3:00.  The older girls can help watch the younger children, and I will bring some popcorn and snacks.  This will be an introductory meeting, to give everyone a chance to ask questions and get a feel for what shape and form they would like a high school program to take.  We will have another meeting in the future to include other interested people, and anyone who is unable to attend this Friday’s meeting.  I wanted to make sure that we got this process started, and that is the purpose of this meeting.  Please come with questions and ideas.  For those of you who are unable to come, I will write up a summary of the meeting and distribute it.  Thank you to everyone who has already contributed ideas and comments; everything is greatly appreciated.  The more comments we get, the better this project will be.  If you can come Friday, I encourage you to do so.  We will keep it short, an hour or so.

Nota Bene: Math Counts competition will be Feb 11.
UK is having an Engineering Day Feb 25; please see Isabel Langfels for details.

While it is still in the planning stages, it looks like our Feb field trip will be a trip to Covington with a priest-led tour of the Cathedral.  Be sure to put it on your calendars!

Looking forward to hearing from you!
